BMW Shenyang Base has just started its 3D plant scanning project to create virtual plants with 3D laser scanning technology, so that efficient and accurate data exchange within and outside the BMW Group and swifter, closer coordination among global plants can be enabled. Shenyang/Beijing. BMW’s electromobility ramp-up has reached a new milestone in China. On November 11th, a signing ceremony for the BMW Future Generation HVB Production Project was held in Shenyang. The signed agreement will see BMW Group’s Chinese joint venture, BMW Brilliance Automotive, invest around 10 billion RMB into a new structure project to expand battery production capacity at its Shenyang production base. (Shenyang) On 4th August 2022, BMW Group and HBIS Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding to Create a Green and Low-Carbon Steel Supply Chain. With the agreement, starting from mid-2023 BMW’s Shenyang production base will begin using HBIS’s low-carbon steel that has a 10-30% smaller carbon footprint compared with traditional steel. As new technologies transform steel manufacturing processes, from 2026 BMW’s Shenyang production base will gradually shift to using green automotive steel (“green steel”). HBIS will produce the “green steel” with the hydrogen-based DRI-EAF (Direct Reduced Iron in Electric Arc Furnace) process, which will gradually move towards a 95% reduction of emissions.

(Shenyang) On May 25th, the BMW Group announced a new cooperation with partner Zhejiang Huayou Recycling Technology Co. Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Huayou Recycling”) for the closed-loop recycling of raw materials in retired high voltage batteries from BMW electrified vehicles. The partnership will see the dismantled raw materials, such as nickel, lithium and cobalt, from retired batteries returned to BMW's battery suppliers to produce new high voltage batteries.

From October to November in 2021, CATARC calculated the green development information of 48 automotive enterprises and 108 automotive parts enterprises, generated the results of this year’s Green Development Index (GDI). This trade was completed through a green power trading platform with the help of Liaoning’s power trading authorities and under the guidance of the “Green Power Trading Pilot Scheme” approved by the National Development and Reform Commission and National Energy Administration. The green power purchased will fulfill most of the green power demand at BMW Brilliance’s Shenyang production base in the next four years. On December 15th, China Automotive Data Co., Ltd officially released the "2020 Green Development Index for Auto Industry", which is China's first accounting system that quantitatively evaluates automotive enterprises' green development and its information transparency. On April 1, BMW Brilliance Tiexi New Plant celebrated its start of construction, a milestone event that signals BMW Brilliance’s further deepening of its localized development strategy, which will lay a solid foundation for richer product lines and the series production in 2022. With the ongoing outbreak of COVID-19 in both China and abroad, the battle against the pandemic has entered a challenging period. (Beijing) On February 12th, BMW China and BMW Brilliance announced to donate a further 25 million RMB to fight the battle against the novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP) in China. The donation will go to the China Population Welfare Foundation through the “Health Angel – Health Volunteer Action” program and will be used for the purchase of urgently needed medical equipment including monitors and non-invasive ventilators for hospitals in Wuhan as well as other cities in Hubei Province. The donation will further be used to fund the first national mental health and counselling hotline for all frontline medical personnel, patients and volunteers.

(Beijing) On December 20th, the China Automotive Technology and Research Center officially released the “2019 Automotive Enterprise Green Development Index” commissioned by the Department of Energy Conservation and Comprehensive Utilization of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The index is the first in China to evaluate the transparency of information related to the auto industry’s green development and assess the industry’s level of green development. The evaluation involves 85 enterprises that manufacture more than 1,000 units of passenger cars each year. According to the index, BMW Brilliance Automotive Co., Ltd. (Shenyang) Today, the BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. Sustainability Report 2017 (hereinafter referred to as the Sustainability Report) is officially launched. Within the Sustainability Report, BMW Brilliance upgraded its sustainability strategy. According to the data jointly released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and three other ministries, BMW Brilliance cut its corporate average fuel consumption to 6.17 liters/100 kilometers in 2017 (compared to 6.69 liters/100 kilometers in 2016), remaining the top-ranked joint venture in China in standard rate. In the afternoon, the 2018 BMW China Culture Journey, co-organized by the Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Qinghai and BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. officially kicked off, launching a journey which has explored and visited Chinese traditional culture over the past 12 consecutive years. (Beijing) On July 17th, BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. (BBA) and Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) signed a Strategic Cooperation Agreement in Beijing to further extend their long-standing partnership in China. With the agreement, CATL becomes BBA’s strategic partner of Lithium-ion cells and will provide a long-term supply of next-generation high-voltage battery cells for all BBA New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) . BBA will also purchase from CATL a project to build battery production capacity in Ningde, Fujian Province, China, which will be used to produce high-voltage battery cells for BBA. The agreement follows the recent announcement by CATL to build a battery-cell factory in Erfurt, Germany, to supply BMW AG’s NEVs with next-generation cell technology.
