BBA’s production base in Shenyang, with a total investment of more than 116 billion RMB since 2010, is the largest one in the BMW Group’s worldwide production network, with Plant Dadong, Plant Tiexi and Lydia Site for the production of vehicles, Powertrain for the production of engines and power batteries, as well as a Research & Development Center. Guided by the BMW iFACTORY production strategy, the BBA plants produce technology-leading and high-quality BMW products by integrating the latestmanufacturing processes and digital innovations including artificial intelligence. BBA currently manufactures the all-new BMW 5 Series LWB, the first-ever BMW i5, the BMW 3 Series (long and standard wheelbase) and the new BMW i3, the all-new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW X1 and BMW iX1, the all-new BMW X3 and BMW iX3, and BMW X5.
BBA is making final preparations for the series production of the Neue Klasse, supported by substantial investments in local production and innovation. BBA has already begun pre-series production at its 10-billion-RMB battery assembly site in late 2024, where it will manufacture BMW 6th generation high-voltage batteries for locally produced NEUE KLASSE models starting from 2026. In total, over 14 billion RMB has been invested in BMW’s local R&D and production of high-voltage batteries since 2017. The 1st pre-series vehicles of Neue Klasse already rolled off the production line at the plant site Lydia in Shenyang, and are now under rigorous testing and validation.
Building on two decades of successful partnership in China, BBA has entered the new Phase 2.0 of its collaboration with local partners, focusing on key areas of future mobility, including vehicle intelligence and electrification. Embracing circular economy principles, BBA has partnered with local partners to achieve 100% recycling of retired power batteries.
